Mont Garbi (France)

Weather…

Mont Garbi is a distinct elevation within the Albères massif, the easternmost spur of the Pyrenees, located in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. Standing at an altitude of approximately 267 meters, it is situated very close to the Mediterranean coast near Cerbère, marking the transition between the mountains and the sea. Despite its modest height, its exposed position right on the cliffside has extraordinary views of the Côte Vermeille and the Spanish border. Geologically, the mountain is characterized by schist, a rock type typical of this part of the Pyrenees. The vegetation consists primarily of Mediterranean scrubland (maquis) and low shrubs capable of withstanding the region's strong winds. Historically, the area around Mont Garbi has been significant as a border region, strategically monitored for centuries. Hiking trails connect the elevation with neighboring viewpoints like Cap Cerbère. The region is also famous for terrace viticulture, which extends up the slopes of the massif.
