Weather…

The Dune du Pilat, located on the French Atlantic coast near Arcachon, is the highest sand dune in Europe. Reaching a height of between 100 and 110 meters depending on wind conditions, it extends for nearly three kilometers in length and about 600 meters in width. The dune contains approximately 60 million cubic meters of sand and is constantly moving inland at a rate of one to five meters per year, gradually burying the adjacent pine forest. Its formation is a complex geological process driven by the supply of sand from offshore banks in the Arcachon Bay and the prevailing westerly winds. From its crest, visitors can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Cap Ferret peninsula, and the vast forest of the Landes. As a major natural landmark, it attracts over two million visitors annually, leading to the installation of seasonal staircases to facilitate access while minimizing human-induced erosion.
