Blanquefort is an attractive commune in the Bordeaux metropolitan area, located on the northern outskirts. It is often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Médoc' because the world-famous wine regions begin here. The town has a rich history dating back to Roman times, evidenced by the impressive ruins of the medieval Blanquefort fortress. In the 18th and 19th centuries, wealthy merchants from Bordeaux settled here and built magnificent châteaux and parks, such as Château de Terrefort or the Parc de Majolan, famous for its artificial grottos and romantic waterways. Economically, Blanquefort developed into a major industrial site in the 20th century, particularly with the establishment of large automotive suppliers. Today, the town has a high quality of life by combining cultural heritage, economic strength, and proximity to the natural landscape of the Garonne marshes.
