Souppes-sur-Loing is located in the far south of the Seine-et-Marne department, acting as a gateway between the Île-de-France and Gâtinais regions. The town's identity is deeply linked to the Loing river and its canal, which have shaped its commercial and industrial history. Souppes gained international recognition for its limestone quarries; the ultra-white 'Souppes stone' is the primary material used in the construction of Paris's most famous landmarks, including the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and the Arc de Triomphe. Geographically, the area is rich in water features and wetlands, making it a hotspot for local biodiversity and eco-tourism. While the local economy was once driven by sugar refineries and heavy stone extraction, it has successfully transitioned toward leisure and services. The town's recreational lake is a major attraction, consistently winning the Blue Flag award for its exceptional water quality. With its direct train link to Paris, Souppes-sur-Loing combines industrial heritage with a high quality of life surrounded by nature.
