The former Cistercian women's abbey of Maubuisson in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône hosts annual contemporary art exhibitions plus concerts and events within its historic walls.
Situated on the banks of the Oise River in the Val-d'Oise department, Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône pairs a deep monastic heritage with modern urban development. The town's most prominent historical landmark is the Maubuisson Cistercian Abbey, founded in 1236 by Queen Blanche of Castile. The surviving structures, including the chapter house and the parlor, function today as a contemporary art center, attracting culture enthusiasts from across the region. The abbey's extensive park, featuring ancient trees and water channels, gives a peaceful environment for afternoon strolls. The town is also known for large green spaces such as the Parc des Sports, which accommodates various outdoor activities. With five train stations connected to the RER C and Transilien H and J lines, the municipality possesses excellent transport links to Paris. This accessibility makes it a convenient base for crossing the river to explore the neighboring historical city of Pontoise. The local open-air market brings energy to the town center every Wednesday and Sunday, offering fresh goods and regional specialties.
