Égly is a growing town in the Essonne department, located about 30 kilometers south of Paris in the historic Hurepoix region. Located in the valley of the Orge river, the town's geography is defined by its waterways and lush meadows. For centuries, Égly remained a quiet agricultural community until the expansion of the Paris metropolitan area in the 20th century transformed it into a desirable residential suburb. The town is well-served by the RER C railway line, allowing residents easy access to central Paris. Despite its modernization, Égly has retained elements of its rural past, including the Saint-Pierre church and several historic farmhouses. The town is known for its commitment to preserving natural spaces, with several parks and lakes providing habitats for local wildlife and recreation areas for citizens. Its community-oriented atmosphere is reflected in its numerous sports clubs and annual cultural events, making it a quintessential example of the transition from rural village to modern suburban city.
