Situated on the Opal Coast, Berck is a coastal town characterized by its massive, 12-kilometer-long fine sand beach and invigorating maritime climate. It gained international fame for the "Rencontres Internationales de Cerfs-Volants", a kite festival held every April that fills the sky with thousands of colorful, gigantic creations from all over the world. The town's history as a health resort dates back to the 19th century, when medical professionals established hospitals here to treat bone diseases using the therapeutic sea air. Today, the coastal promenade is a popular spot for leisurely walks, offering uninterrupted views of the English Channel. At the Bay of Authie, just south of the town center, visitors can frequently observe a large colony of harbor seals resting on the sandbanks during low tide. The local lighthouse, standing 45 meters tall, is a distinctive landmark that replaced an older structure destroyed during the Second World War. Berck also features a heritage museum displaying works by painters from the Berck School, who were inspired by the dramatic coastal light and maritime life in the late 19th century.
