Elven is a historic Breton town situated in the Morbihan department, about 15 kilometers northeast of the city of Vannes. The town is globally recognized among history enthusiasts for the Fortress of Largoët, often referred to as the Towers of Elven. This medieval stronghold features a massive octagonal keep standing 57 meters tall, making it one of the highest medieval structures of its kind in France. The fortress served as a strategic military outpost during the 14th and 15th centuries and notably housed Henry VII of England during his period of exile. Geographically, Elven is characterized by lush woodlands and rolling hills, typical of the Armorican massif's inland landscapes. The town center retains its authentic charm with traditional granite buildings and the Saint-Alban church. In recent years, Elven has seen significant economic growth due to its strategic position along the Vannes-Rennes transport axis, attracting new residents and businesses. Despite its modernization, the town remains deeply committed to its Breton identity, celebrated through local festivals, traditional music, and dance. For visitors, Elven gives a unique window into Brittany's feudal past set against a backdrop of tranquil natural beauty.
