Binic-Étables-sur-Mer is a spirited coastal municipality in Brittany, formed in 2016 by the merger of the historic port of Binic and the seaside resort of Étables-sur-Mer. Binic's history is deeply intertwined with the great cod fishing expeditions to Iceland and Newfoundland in the 19th century, making it one of France's primary fishing hubs at the time. The sturdy granite merchant houses along the harbor still bear witness to this prosperous maritime past. Étables-sur-Mer, on the other hand, flourished during the Belle Époque as an elegant holiday destination, characterized by its beautiful villas and wooded parks overlooking the English Channel. The combined town features a diverse shoreline, featuring high cliffs and expansive sandy beaches such as the Plage des Godelins and the Plage de la Banche. The famous GR34 coastal trail passes through the town, offering dramatic views of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. Today, the economy thrives on upscale tourism, sailing, and aquaculture. The town is also known for its dynamic cultural scene, most notably the Binic Folks Blues Festival, which attracts an international audience to its photogenic shores every summer.
