Vindry-sur-Turdine is a modern French commune in the Rhône department, part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It was established on January 1, 2019, through the merger of four former municipalities: Pontcharra-sur-Turdine, Dareizé, Les Olmes, and Saint-Loup. This administrative consolidation was designed to strengthen the economic and social cohesion of the area west of Lyon. Geographically, the town is positioned in the Turdine valley, at the foothills of the Beaujolais mountains, a region famous for its rolling hills and viticulture. The commune's development is closely tied to its strategic position along the A89 motorway, which has encouraged the growth of industrial and logistics sectors. Despite this modern industrial growth, Vindry-sur-Turdine retains its rural charm, with historic stone churches and traditional architecture reflecting its constituent villages' individual histories. The Turdine river, which flows through the heart of the town, remains a key natural asset, supporting local biodiversity and providing scenic spots for residents. The town is increasingly popular with families seeking a balance between a dynamic professional environment and a high quality of rural life.
