La Mulatière is a small but strategically significant municipality directly bordering the city of Lyon. It is situated on the right bank of the Saône and Rhône rivers, precisely where the two meet. This location historically made the town a key transport hub, especially during the Industrial Revolution when large railway facilities and workshops were established here. The town's geography is defined by steep slopes descending from the Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon plateau to the riverbank. The upper parts of the town offer spectacular views of Lyon and the Confluence district. A major tourist attraction is the Aquarium of Lyon, which houses a wide variety of marine life. Despite the dense urban environment and proximity to the A7 motorway, La Mulatière also features green oases and riverside walking paths. In recent years, the town has worked to transform its industrial heritage, creating modern residential and workspaces while maintaining its close connection to the Lyon metropolis.
