Aligidir Agro-Industry is a large agricultural project in western Eritrea processing cotton and sugar cane. It supports the regional economy by producing textile fibers and sugar for domestic consumption.

Visiting

The vast plantations and processing facilities are typically not open to the public as they include operational agricultural areas. Viewing the fields from nearby roads is possible though.

Where to view it

Good viewpoints are provided by roads running along the fields, especially near the main canal and irrigation infrastructure. From the hills east of the project, one has a wide view over the plantations.

In the vicinity, cotton products such as fibers and yarns, as well as raw sugar from processing, are available. On regional markets, fresh sugar cane and cotton fabrics are also found seasonally.

The main harvest and processing period for sugar cane is during the dry season between November and April, while cotton is typically harvested from September to February. During these months, the facility is busiest.
