Temple of Seti I (Egypt)

Weather…

The Temple of Seti I at Abydos is widely regarded as one of the most artistically refined structures of Ancient Egypt. Built during the 19th Dynasty, the temple was completed by Seti's son, Ramesses II, following his father's death. It stands out due to its unusual L-shaped floor plan and its seven dedicated sanctuaries, each honoring a different deity including Osiris, Isis, and Horus. A key historical feature within the temple is the Abydos King List, a detailed relief naming 76 of Seti's predecessors in chronological order, providing archaeologists with a vital record of Egyptian pharaohs. Behind the main temple lies the enigmatic Osireion, a massive underground granite structure symbolically representing the tomb of the god Osiris. The exceptional quality of the raised reliefs throughout the temple, known for their delicate lines and vivid details, makes Abydos a pinnacle of ancient Egyptian sacred art.
