Ras Mohammed
Scuba divers and snorkelers from all over the globe travel to Ras Mohammed to experience some of the most bustling and biologically diverse underwater ecosystems on the planet. Positioned exactly where the Gulf of Suez meets the Gulf of Aqaba, the park's unique water currents attract an incredible array of marine life, including colorful corals, massive schools of fish, sea turtles, and occasional reef sharks. Iconic dive sites like Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef offer panoramic drop-offs and the fascinating wreckage of a sunken cargo ship. Above the water, the park is a rugged, protected desert environment featuring mangrove forests, salt lakes, and earthquake cracks that tell the geological history of the region. There are no major restaurants or hotels within the strict boundaries of the national park, ensuring its preservation. Visitors usually bring packed lunches from their resorts or enjoy traditional Bedouin tea and snacks at small, rustic encampments near the beaches. The park is most easily accessed via a short boat ride or a 30-minute drive from the popular resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh. While diving is possible year-round due to the warm Red Sea waters, the best time to visit is during the late summer and autumn (September to November) when the sea is exceptionally calm, and the underwater visibility is spectacular.
