Aarhus Cathedral (Denmark)

Weather…

Aarhus Cathedral, officially named St. Clement's Church, is the longest and tallest church in Denmark and a landmark of the city. Construction began in the late 12th century in the Romanesque style, but in the 15th century, the building was extensively reconstructed and expanded in the Gothic style. The church measures an impressive 93 meters in length, and its striking tower rises 96 meters into the sky. Inside, the cathedral houses the most extensive collection of medieval frescoes in Denmark, which were whitewashed after the Reformation and rediscovered in the early 20th century. Other artistic treasures include the magnificent winged altar by Bernt Notke from 1479 and the impressive organ, which is one of the largest in the country. As the spiritual center of the Diocese of Aarhus, the cathedral is a place of living tradition and an impressive testament to Danish church architecture spanning eight centuries.
