Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc is a monumental Baroque monument erected between 1716 and 1754 to commemorate the end of a plague epidemic. Standing 35 meters high, it is the largest free-standing Baroque sculpture in Central Europe and features a small chapel integrated into its base. The project was initiated by master stonemason Wenzel Render, who dedicated his life and fortune to its completion, though he did not live to see its consecration in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. The column is adorned with numerous gilded bronze figures and stone sculptures depicting saints and biblical scenes. It serves as an outstanding example of Moravian Baroque art and local craftsmanship. Owing to its exceptional artistic quality and historical significance, the column was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 as a testament to religious devotion and civic pride.
