Roncador Lighthouse (Cuba)

Weather…

The Faro de Roncali is situated at Cabo San Antonio, the westernmost point of the island of Cuba in the province of Pinar del Río. The lighthouse was constructed between 1846 and 1849 and is named after Federico di Roncali, the Captain General of Cuba at that time. Built from massive limestone blocks, the tower stands 22.5 meters high and serves as a vital navigational aid for ships traversing the Yucatán Channel. The lighthouse's location is extremely remote, surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and limestone cliffs. Despite numerous hurricanes that have struck the region over the decades, the tower's masonry has remained in excellent condition. The lighting system has been modernized several times and is now automated, yet it retains its historic character. The Faro de Roncali marks not only a geographical boundary but is also a technical monument of the Spanish colonial era. It features an expansive view over the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
