Ignacio Agramonte Park (Cuba)

Weather…

Ignacio Agramonte Park is the primary public square and the historical heart of Camagüey, a city renowned for its labyrinthine streets and colonial heritage. Originally established as the Plaza de Armas during the Spanish colonial period, it was renamed in 1899 to honor the local independence leader Ignacio Agramonte. At the center of the park stands a monumental bronze equestrian statue of Agramonte, which was inaugurated in 1912 and sculpted by the Italian artist Salvatore Buemi. The square is framed by significant landmarks, including the Cathedral of Our Lady of Candelaria and the municipal government building, showcasing styles from baroque to neoclassical. Four tall royal palms located in the corners of the plaza were planted as a tribute to four local patriots executed by Spanish authorities on this site. Today, the park remains the most important gathering spot for civic life and cultural ceremonies within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Camagüey's historic center.
