Zavala is situated on the steep southern coast of Hvar island and is connected to the rest of the island via an adventurous single-lane tunnel near Pitve. This isolation has helped Zavala maintain its exclusive and peaceful character. The settlement faces the small island of Šćedro directly and gives some of the finest pebble beaches on Hvar, such as 'Petarčica'. The sea here is exceptionally clear and deep blue. The slopes above the village are covered with vineyards, especially of the 'Bogdanuša' variety, which yields excellent wines due to the unique microclimate and intense sunshine. Zavala has no large hotels, offering instead appealing guesthouses and holiday homes harmoniously integrated into the landscape. A narrow seaside promenade winds along the coast, connecting various bays. For nature enthusiasts, Zavala is a convenient spot to visit Šćedro island by boat or to take hikes through the surrounding vineyards. The air is filled with the scent of lavender, rosemary, and pine trees. Local konobas serve grilled fish and seafood alongside the excellent local wine. Zavala is the well-suited destination for travelers seeking relaxation, premium wine, and an unadulterated Mediterranean lifestyle.
