Playa Conchal
Playa Conchal is often lauded as one of the most impressive and unique beaches in all of Central America. Visitors come here specifically to walk on its extraordinary shoreline, which is composed not of traditional sand, but of millions of tiny, naturally crushed white seashells. This geological quirk, combined with some of the clearest, most vividly turquoise water in Costa Rica, creates an unparalleled tropical paradise setting. It is highly favored by couples, snorkelers, and those staying at the adjacent luxury eco-resorts. The clear, calm waters make it an outstanding location for snorkeling, with healthy coral reefs lying just offshore where you can swim alongside pufferfish, moray eels, and brightly colored tropical fish. Swimming and kayaking are also very popular here. The beach is fringed by lush vegetation and tall trees that provide natural shade. While dining options directly on the beach are limited to local vendors, nearby resorts and the adjacent town of Brasilito offer a mix of high-end gastronomy and traditional local 'sodas'. Accessing Playa Conchal typically involves parking in the neighboring town of Brasilito and walking about 15 minutes south across Brasilito beach, or accessing it directly if you are a guest at the large resort on site. It is about a one-hour drive from the Liberia airport. The prime visiting window is the dry season (December to April), ensuring the water remains brilliantly clear and the skies are blue.
