Mount Lu, located in northern Jiangxi Province overlooking the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake, has been an inspirational haven for poets, scholars, and spiritual leaders for millennia. The mountain is renowned for its sheer cliffs, spectacular waterfalls, and the ever-present mist that gives it an aura of mystery. It is deeply intertwined with Chinese literary history, celebrated in countless classic poems. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lushan became a popular summer retreat for foreign missionaries and Chinese political leaders, resulting in a unique architectural legacy of hundreds of Western-style villas in Guling Town. Visitors can explore historic sites, botanical gardens, and the famous Sandiequan (Three-Step) Waterfall. Lushan is accessible via trains to Jiujiang or Lushan Station, from where buses wind up the mountain to Guling Town. The quintessential time to visit is during the summer months (July and August) to escape the heat of the plains, or in autumn to witness the impressive sunrise over the "Sea of Clouds" and the spirited fall foliage.
