Pisco Elqui (Chile)

Weather…

Pisco Elqui is a tiny, peaceful village set in the Andes Mountains, serving as the center of Chilean pisco production. The settlement was renamed from La Unión to its current name in 1936 to strengthen the designation of origin for Chilean pisco. The terraced mountainsides surrounding the village are covered with green vineyards, nourished by clear mountain streams. The most popular activity for visitors is visiting the local distilleries (pisqueras), where they can learn about the process of making the grape brandy and participate in tastings. In the center of the village stands a beautiful wooden church, surrounded by a tree-shaded square, a convenient spot to relax in the early afternoon heat. The true attraction of the region is astrotourism, as the Elqui Valley is home to one of the clearest night skies in the world. Numerous astronomical observatories are located around the settlement, where tourists can observe the Milky Way through massive telescopes. The valley can be visited all year round, with spring and summer guaranteeing warm, sunny days in the mountains.
