Weather…

The Granite Sculpture Symposium of Laongo is a unique outdoor art gallery located about 35 kilometers from Ouagadougou. Since 1989, artists from across the globe have gathered here biennially to carve figures, abstract shapes, and cultural motifs into the natural granite outcrops that dot the savanna. The site blends contemporary art with the rugged, natural landscape of the Plateau-Central region. Walking trails connect the various sculptures, which depict everything from local folklore and animals to abstract concepts and historical figures. The environment is typical bushland, dry for most of the year, with baobab trees providing sparse shade. There are no major restaurants on-site, so visitors usually bring water and snacks from the capital. Access is relatively straightforward via the road to Ziniaré, and a guided tour by local caretakers helps explain the origin and meaning of specific carvings. The cooler morning hours between November and February are the most comfortable times to walk the expansive grounds and appreciate the detailed stonework without the intense midday sun.
