Solenzo is the administrative center of Banwa Province in the Boucle du Mouhoun region of western Burkina Faso. The town is located in one of the most fertile regions of the country, often referred to as the breadbasket of Burkina Faso due to its high yields of cereals and cotton. Historically, Solenzo has been closely linked to the development of cotton cultivation, which forms the backbone of the local economy and creates numerous jobs in agriculture and processing. The geographical location of Solenzo is characterized by its proximity to the Mouhoun River loop, which allows for a relatively stable water supply for peasant farms. Despite its importance as an agricultural hub, connectivity to the national road network is often a challenge, especially during the rainy season when unpaved roads become difficult to traverse. The population of Solenzo consists of various ethnic groups, including the Bwa and the Mossi, living in a productive social exchange. In recent decades, the town has experienced moderate urbanization, with educational institutions and local health centers expanded to meet the needs of the growing population. The town plays a central role in the distribution of agricultural inputs and the marketing of crops throughout Banwa Province.
