Caldas Novas
Caldas Novas in the state of Goiás is the undisputed center of Brazilian thermal water tourism. Beneath the city lies a massive geothermal system where rainwater penetrates deep into the earth's crust, is heated, and returns to the surface under pressure at temperatures between 43 and 70 degrees Celsius. This natural phenomenon feeds dozens of resorts and huge water parks, including the famous Di Roma Acqua Park and the Lagoa Termas Parque. In addition to the artificially created swimming complexes, the Parque Estadual da Serra de Caldas Novas provides an escape into untouched nature. This state park was created to protect the aquifers that feed the thermal springs. On hiking trails, visitors can explore the Cerrado savanna landscape, discover small waterfalls, and observe the rich local birdlife. The Monumento das Águas at the city entrance honors the importance of thermal waters to the region. The city is heavily visited all year round, especially during the Brazilian school holidays in July and December when the thermal pools fill up. For a quieter atmosphere, a visit during the week in the off-season is recommended. Caldas Novas has its own small airport with connections to São Paulo, but can also be reached via a well-maintained road from the state capital Goiânia in just over two hours.
