The Autonomous Port of Cotonou (PAC) is the economic heartbeat of Benin and one of the most important deep-water ports in West Africa. Established in 1964, the port not only handles 90% of the country's foreign trade but also serves as a vital transit route for landlocked neighboring countries such as Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. Due to its strategic location, it is one of the busiest logistics hubs in the region, processing millions of tons of cargo annually. The port undergoes continuous modernization, including terminal expansion and the implementation of digital management systems to increase efficiency. Since 2018, the international arm of the Port of Antwerp has been involved in its management, providing expertise for major upgrades. Port activities directly and indirectly create tens of thousands of jobs in Cotonou and the surrounding areas.
