Riffa Fort (Bahrain)

Weather…

Riffa Fort, also known as Sheikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort, is strategically perched on a cliff in the heart of Bahrain, offering commanding views of the Hunanaiya Valley. The fort was built in 1812 by Sheikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the ruler at the time. It served as both a defensive stronghold and the royal residence for the Al Khalifa family throughout the 19th century. Its architecture is a prime example of traditional Bahraini fortification, featuring high walls and watchtowers. A key feature is its well-preserved central courtyard, which contains a mosque and various rooms providing insight into the royal family's life. After the ruling seat moved to Manama, the fort's importance declined, but it has since been beautifully restored and converted into a museum. Today, it gives visitors a glimpse into Bahrain's history and the heritage of the Al Khalifa family.
