Sitra is an island city on the east coast of Bahrain, south of the capital, Manama. The island is connected to the main island by the Sitra Causeway and plays a crucial role in the country's economy. It is the center of Bahrain's oil industry, housing the main refinery of the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and facilities for exporting petroleum products. Besides its industrial significance, Sitra was also known for its agricultural lands and palm groves, although these have diminished with urban expansion. The island has several villages and a growing population. The port of Sitra is one of the most important in the country, serving both oil exports and commercial purposes. More recently, efforts have been made to develop the coastal areas and create recreational facilities for residents.
