The Sitra Power and Water Station is one of the older yet still vital plants in Bahrain's utility network. Located directly on the coast of Sitra Island, adjacent to the Bapco refinery, its first unit was commissioned as early as 1975. Over the years, the plant was expanded multiple times to meet growing demand. It uses a combination of gas turbines for electricity generation and Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) distillation for producing potable water from seawater.
