Maipo Volcano (Argentina)

Weather…

Maipo Volcano is an active and symmetrical stratovolcano located on the border between Argentina and Chile, within the remarkable Laguna del Diamante Provincial Reserve in Mendoza. Standing at 5,264 meters, it dominates the landscape above the lagoon, whose diamond shape reflecting the volcano gave the place its name. Maipo is famous for its huge collapse caldera, formed about 450,000 years ago, one of the largest in the world. The landscape is one of the wildest and most beautiful in the Central Andes, accessible only during the summer months due to massive snow accumulation. The volcano and its surrounding lagoon form a fragile high-altitude ecosystem, where wildlife is adapted to extreme conditions of radiation and cold.
