Dung Quat Refinery

The Dung Quat Refinery is Vietnam's first oil refinery and marks a significant milestone in the country's industrial evolution. Located in Quang Ngai province, the facility was officially commissioned in 2009 to reduce national dependence on imported petroleum products. The refinery is operated by the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company (BSR) and primarily processes crude oil from the domestic Bach Ho fields. With an annual capacity of approximately 6.5 million tons, the refinery supplies around 30% of Vietnam's demand for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. This project was instrumental in establishing the Dung Quat Economic Zone, which has since become a major hub for heavy industry and logistics. Ongoing upgrades aim to align the facility with international environmental standards and enhance its capability to process heavier crude oil grades.
