Denali National Park (United States)

Weather…

Denali National Park and Preserve in the heart of Alaska encompasses over 6 million acres of pristine subarctic wilderness. Its centerpoint is Denali, the highest peak in North America at 20,310 feet (6,190 meters), formerly officially named Mount McKinley. Established in 1917, the park was created to protect the local wildlife and the rugged landscapes of the Alaska Range. The ecosystem transitions from low-elevation taiga forests to high-alpine tundra and massive glaciers that cover about one-sixth of the park's area. Denali is famous for its 'Big Five' mammals: grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and gray wolves. Unlike most major parks, only one 92-mile-long road provides access to the interior, much of which remains accessible only via shuttle buses or on foot. The park serves as a vital laboratory for scientists studying permafrost and climate change. For mountaineers, Denali has one of the world's most significant challenges due to its extreme cold and its massive vertical rise from base to summit.
