Brant Point Light
Brant Point Light is a historically significant lighthouse located on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. Established in 1746, it is recognized as the second oldest light station in the state and one of the oldest in the United States. Over the centuries, the station has seen numerous towers built and rebuilt due to storms, fires, and changing coastlines. The current structure, a picturesque 26-foot-tall wooden cylindrical tower, was constructed in 1901.
Situated at the entrance to Nantucket Harbor, the lighthouse is often the first historic landmark seen by visitors arriving via the island's ferry services. Its classic white exterior and prominent location make it a beloved symbol of Nantucket's rich maritime heritage. The lighthouse grounds offer spectacular views of the harbor, incoming boats, and the surrounding coastal landscape.
While the interior of the tower is generally closed to the public, the grounds are easily accessible. It is a local tradition for departing visitors to toss a penny into the water as the ferry rounds the point, ensuring a future return to the island. The site is exceptionally popular for photography and enjoying the maritime atmosphere.
