Bass River Light (West Dennis Light)

Bass River Light, also known widely as West Dennis Light, is a historic maritime landmark situated on the shores of Nantucket Sound at the mouth of the Bass River in Massachusetts. Constructed in 1855, this classic Cape Cod-style lighthouse was originally established to guide the heavy maritime traffic seeking safe harbor in the river. Unlike many freestanding lighthouse towers, the Bass River Light features a prominent lantern room perched atop a keeper's dwelling, showcasing the typical residential lighthouse architecture of New England.

Over its history, the lighthouse experienced periods of deactivation and changing ownership before being expanded and integrated into what is now the Lighthouse Inn, a popular seasonal resort. The light itself was relit in 1989 and operates as a private aid to navigation. Visitors to the area can admire the well-preserved exterior, enjoy the expansive views of the adjacent West Dennis Beach, and soak in the rich maritime heritage of Cape Cod.

While the interior functions primarily as part of the inn, the surrounding grounds offer exceptional opportunities for coastal photography and relaxed seaside walks.
