Snodland is a historic town in the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent, England, situated on the west bank of the River Medway. It is strategically positioned between the major towns of Rochester and Maidstone. Human habitation in the area dates back to the Roman period, evidenced by the significant remains of a Roman villa found near the parish church. Historically a farming village, Snodland's identity was reshaped by the Industrial Revolution. It emerged as a major center for papermaking and lime burning, later evolving into a hub for cement production. The Snodland Paper Mill, established in the 1700s, remains a prominent industrial landmark and a key local employer. The town is situated on the edge of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To the south lies the Leybourne Lakes Country Park, a large wetland area created from former gravel pits that now serves as a major regional center for wildlife conservation and outdoor recreation.
