Beckton is a characteristic district in the east of London, located in the London Borough of Newham. Its history is closely linked to London's industrial expansion during the Victorian era, particularly due to the location of the major gas works that long dominated the townscape. After industrial withdrawal, Beckton became the target of extensive urban renewal projects in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, Beckton presents itself as a modern residential area with numerous new housing projects, excellently connected to the city center and the Canary Wharf business district via the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). The transformation from an industrial heavyweight into a dynamic residential community is a prime example of urban development in East London. The area also benefits from its proximity to the Thames, which has been increasingly integrated into the design of public spaces in recent years.
