Budinok Kochubeia
The Kochubey House in Baturyn is a remarkable architectural monument of the 17th century and one of the rare structures to survive the tragic sack of the city in 1708. Originally the estate of Vasyl Kochubey, the Judge General of the Zaporozhian Host, the manor represents traditional Ukrainian Cossack architecture of the era. The building has witnessed profound historical events, including political intrigues surrounding Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
Today, the beautifully restored manor operates as a fascinating museum within the "Hetman's Capital" National Historical and Cultural Reserve. Its exhibits offer a deep dive into the lives of the Cossack elite, showcasing authentic artifacts, historical documents, and personal belongings from the Kochubey family. Visitors can explore the preserved basement, where, according to legend, Kochubey was held before his execution.
The manor is situated within a picturesque and ancient park, which features centuries-old oak trees. Strolling through the grounds provides a serene atmosphere and a powerful connection to Ukraine's turbulent and rich history. It is an essential destination for anyone interested in the Cossack Hetmanate and its legacy.
