Härnösand Cathedral
Härnösand Cathedral is the smallest cathedral in Sweden and serves as the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Härnösand. The current Neoclassical building was constructed between 1843 and 1846 according to the designs of architect Johan Adolf Hawerman, replacing an earlier dilapidated church. The cathedral is characterized by its bright, austere facade and a prominent square tower that defines the city's skyline. Inside, the church houses significant works of art, including an 18th-century altarpiece and a bronze baptismal font crafted in Spain. Despite its modest size compared to other Swedish cathedrals, it plays a central role in the spiritual life of the Västernorrland region. The interior's exceptional acoustics make the cathedral a popular venue for concerts, cementing its status as a cultural hub for the local community.
