Meseta Central (Spain)

Weather…

The Meseta Central is a massive highland plateau that constitutes the geographical and tectonic core of the entire Iberian Peninsula. With a notable average elevation of approximately 660 meters above sea level, this vast plain occupies almost half of Spain's total landmass. The extensive plateau is structurally divided into two distinct halves by the Central System, a prominent mountain range: the northern Meseta Norte and the southern Meseta Sur. Geologically speaking, the foundation of the Meseta is primarily composed of ancient, highly resistant Paleozoic rocks, such as quartzite and slate, which have been flattened by severe erosion over millions of years. The continental climate of this expansive region is characterized by extreme temperature fluctuations, featuring scorching, arid summers followed by brutally cold and frosty winters. Agriculturally, the dry landscape is predominantly utilized for the large-scale cultivation of cereal crops, extensive vineyards, and widespread olive groves.
