💡 Tips
- If you want to enjoy the memorable views of the Sierra Nevada, the best light is usually just before sunset from the elevated outskirts of town.
- Parking in the historic center can be very tight due to the narrow Moorish street layout; leave your car on the wider avenues on the edge of town.
- Many local shops and businesses strictly observe the siesta, closing between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM; plan your shopping for the morning.
- It's a great base if you want to visit Granada but prefer a quiet, authentic Andalusian village vibe without the big city prices.
🍽 Food

🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The surrounding groves produce excellent extra virgin olive oil; buy a bottle from local grocers or direct from cooperatives.
Look for traditional Andalusian painted ceramics in small craft or home goods stores.

Alhendín is an appealing Andalusian town located just a few kilometres south of Granada, in the fertile plain of Vega de Granada. The town's name has Arab origins, deriving from 'al-Handayn,' meaning 'the two fortresses,' an allusion to its strategic importance during the Moorish period. Today, Alhendín is a tranquil municipality that has preserved its traditional character while offering modern services. Its main attraction is the 16th-century Church of the Immaculate Conception, built in the Mudéjar style. The town is surrounded by extensive olive and almond groves, whose products, especially olive oil, form the basis of the local economy. Visitors can enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the local tapas bars, where they can taste the region's specialities. Thanks to its strategic location, Alhendín is a well-suited base for exploring Granada, the Alhambra, and the Sierra Nevada National Park, which gives hiking in summer and skiing in winter. The town is easily accessible from the Granada ring road. The best times to visit are spring and autumn, when the weather is convenient for excursions.
