Techirghiol is a city in Constanța County, located on the shores of Lake Techirghiol, very close to the Black Sea coast. The town is globally famous for its saltwater lake and the therapeutic sapropelic mud, which is widely used for treating various medical conditions. First documented in 1560, Techirghiol began its development as a premier spa resort in the late 19th century with the opening of its first medical sanatoriums. A significant spiritual and cultural landmark is the Saint Mary Monastery, which houses a historic 18th-century wooden church originally brought from the Maramureș region. The lake itself, covering an area of 11.6 square kilometers, is Romania's largest saltwater lake and a protected area for its unique biodiversity and rare bird species.
