Tașaul Lake is a significant brackish water lake located in the Dobruja region, near the town of Năvodari and the Black Sea coast. Originally formed as a fluviatile liman, the water body covers an area of approximately 23 square kilometers. The lake is primarily fed by the Casimcea River and is connected via channels to the Midia Port and the sea. Its ecological importance is immense, serving as a vital resting and breeding ground for numerous migratory birds, including pelicans and herons. The water depth is relatively shallow, averaging two to four meters, which promotes rich underwater vegetation. Historically and economically, the lake was used for fishing, while today nature conservation and recreational activities are prioritized. The Ostrov Island within the lake hosts archaeological remains and adds to the scenic diversity of the landscape.
