A serious traffic accident involving four cars occurred in January 2026 on the road between Horia and Șiria. One person died as a result of the collision, and five other people involved were treated by emergency medical teams.
Șiria, historically known as Világos, is a prominent commune in Arad County, Western Romania, situated at the foothills of the Zărand Mountains. The town gained worldwide historical significance as the site of the Surrender at Világos in 1849, which ended the Hungarian Revolution against the Habsburg Empire. Perched on a hill overlooking the town are the ruins of the 13th-century Șiria Castle, offering panoramic views of the Arad Plain. Șiria is also the birthplace of the classical Romanian writer Ioan Slavici, and his memorial house in the Bohuș Castle is a major cultural landmark. The region is famous for its long tradition of winemaking, being part of the Miniș-Măderat vineyard area. Today, Șiria is a popular destination for history buffs, wine connoisseurs, and outdoor sports enthusiasts, particularly paragliders who take advantage of the favorable wind conditions on the castle hill.
