Bantayan Island, located off the northwestern tip of Cebu, is a tropical sanctuary known for its striking white sands and crystal-clear waters. Unlike more developed destinations, Bantayan retains a laid-back, provincial charm that makes it first-rate for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. The town of Santa Fe is the island's primary entry point and tourist hub, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines, such as Sugar Beach and Kota Beach. The island's vibe is one of total relaxation and tranquility. One of the best ways to explore the island is by renting a bicycle or scooter, as the terrain is mostly flat and easy to navigate. Key highlights include the Ogtong Cave Pool, a natural limestone sinkhole great for a cool dip, and the historic Bantayan Church, which dates back to the Spanish era. Foodies should try the island's famous dried fish (danggit) and fresh seafood available at the local markets. A day trip to the nearby Virgin Island is highly recommended for its incredible snorkeling and picture-excellent coral shores. Watching the sunset with a drink in hand is the quintessential Bantayan experience. To get there, travelers take a bus from Cebu City to Hagnaya Port and then a one-hour ferry to the island.
