Boca Chica
Boca Chica is a characterful fishing village that has evolved into the premier gateway for exploring the Gulf of Chiriquí. Travelers come here to embark on boat tours to uninhabited islands featuring pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters. It is a sanctuary for those seeking tranquility and raw natural beauty away from the more developed tourist paths. The environment is dominated by the Chiriquí National Marine Park, which protects coral reefs, lush mangroves, and a diverse array of marine species. From July to October, humpback whales migrate through these waters, making Boca Chica one of Panama’s top whale-watching spots. The local culinary scene is focused on 'from-ocean-to-table' seafood, served in cozy waterfront eateries. Reaching Boca Chica is easiest via the city of David, which is about an hour's drive away. A well-paved road connects the Pan-American Highway directly to the village. Most international visitors fly into David’s airport and take a shuttle or rental car to complete the final leg of the journey. The best time for island hopping and sunbathing is during the dry season, from December to April. However, nature enthusiasts often visit during the rainy season to catch a glimpse of the migrating whales. Accommodations vary from boutique hotels on the mainland to secluded eco-resorts on the nearby islands.
