Tell es-Sakan (Palestinian Territories)

Weather…

Tell es-Sakan is a premier archaeological site located south of Gaza City, along the banks of Wadi Ghazza. It serves as one of the most significant Early Bronze Age settlements in the southern Levant, marking a period of intense cultural exchange between Canaan and Ancient Egypt. Excavations have revealed massive mud-brick defensive walls and bastions that reflect a sophisticated level of urban planning dating back to the late 4th millennium BC. The site is particularly famous for its Old Kingdom Egyptian remains, proving it was a vital administrative and trade outpost on the 'Ways of Horus' coastal road. These findings highlight the role of Tell es-Sakan as a bridge between empires, where goods, ideas, and technologies were exchanged. Although partially endangered by urban expansion, the site remains a vital window into the dawn of urbanization and the complex geopolitical landscape of the ancient Near East.
