Ad-Dhahiriya is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the southern West Bank, with a history stretching back to the Canaanite era. Situated strategically between Hebron and the Negev desert, it has served as a vital commercial link for centuries. The town is particularly famous for its historic core, which contains one of the most significant collections of Ottoman-era stone buildings in Palestine. Through extensive restoration efforts by organizations like Riwaq, much of this architectural heritage has been preserved, turning the old city into a living museum of vaulted ceilings and narrow alleyways. Archeological sites in and around the town include a Byzantine fortress and ancient burial caves, highlighting its long-standing importance on regional trade routes. Today, Ad-Dhahiriya maintains its traditional character, particularly through its bustling livestock market, and provides visitors a unique window into the authentic cultural landscape of the southern Judean Hills.
