Vineyards of Bellet (Monaco)

Weather…

The Bellet vineyard, perched on the hills west of Nice, is one of France's oldest and smallest Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) wine regions. The vines are cultivated on steep slopes at altitudes between 200 and 300 meters, benefiting from constant sea breezes and Alpine air currents. AOC Bellet was officially recognized in 1941 and today covers only about 50 hectares of cultivated land. It is unique for its use of rare, local grape varieties such as Braquet, Folle Noire, and Rolle, which give the wines their distinctive character. Due to the limited production area, Bellet wines are rare and highly sought after, often found in the top gastronomic establishments of the French Riviera. The soil, characterized by poudingue (a mix of pebbles and sandstone), provides excellent drainage and a specific minerality to the vintage, preserving a centuries-old tradition amidst urban expansion.
