Larvotto Coastal Strip (Monaco)

Weather…

The Côte du Larvotto forms the easternmost coastal section of Monaco and is the result of extensive coastal protection and land reclamation measures. Originally, the relief was characterized by rocky coves and a narrow coastline until the modern Larvotto beach was artificially created in the 1960s. Today, the relief is gently sloping and consists of fine gravel protected against erosion by groynes. Behind the beach zone, the terrain rises in terraces towards the luxury residential skyscrapers of Avenue Princesse Grace. Underwater, the relief continues as a valuable marine protected area, known for its Posidonia meadows. The reshaping of this coastal stretch was a central part of Prince Rainier III's strategy to establish Monaco as an exclusive tourist destination.
