Odysseo Oceanarium
The Odysseo Oceanarium in Port Louis is the largest of its kind in the Mascarene Islands and was opened in September 2021. The facility covers an area of 5,500 square meters and houses approximately 3,500 specimens belonging to 200 different species. Odysseo’s mission is to raise public awareness about ocean conservation while simultaneously conducting scientific research. Geographically, it is strategically located in the capital's harbor, blending modern architecture with ecological educational concepts. The exhibits are organized thematically, leading visitors from coastal environments to the deep-sea zones of the Indian Ocean. A standout feature is the walk-through tunnel in the main tank, where sharks and rays can be observed. Odysseo is also committed to conservation projects, such as the rehabilitation of endangered marine species and coastal cleanup initiatives. Its technical infrastructure includes advanced filtration systems to maintain optimal conditions for the delicate marine ecosystems.
